The University of Huddersfield Northern Praying Mantis Kung fu school was started in 1971 by Master Lee shortly after he arrived in Britain from Malaysia. Beginners courses commence every October at the start of the academic year. After the basic techniques of the Northern Mantis system have been taught, the traditional forms are taught, beginning with the 18 Hands of Praying Mantis. Although Praying Mantis is an ancient art, the instructors at the University employ the latest coaching and exercise methods in order to enable optimum progress by the students, and to minimise the risk of injury. Over the years many hundreds of people have benefited from being a member of this school and some have gone on to become instructors themselves.
